About »
West Marin Thrift Store was created by community leaders in 1987 as a vehicle to raise funds to support West Marin residents in need. It was decided that the profits from the Thrift Store would be distributed back into the community, with particular concern for low-income children, families, and seniors through grants and loans for emergency and supportive care to people in crisis, or who have special needs; grants to local nonprofit childcare and preschool agencies for scholarships to low-income families; and grants to low-income seniors to provide for in-home assistance and caregiver support to the elderly, and any other critical needs that may arise.
When The Volunteer Center closed down operations in Point Reyes in the 90's, the Board of Directors at the West Marin Thrift Store recognized that an important resource for West Marin residents was about to be lost so they took over the operation of the Center and later renamed it the Community Resource Center. In 2000, the Thrift Store Board of Directors amended their Articles of Incorporation to include the Resource Center and created West Marin
Community Services to be the administrative umbrella of both programs.”
West Marin Community Services is the place to go when a resident needs help, and is a vital and important organization to the health and welfare of the West Marin community. Without our services, people would go hungry, homelessness would increase, the most vulnerable children would go without childcare, and many seniors would lose their independence and be forced from their homes into care facilities.
